Master of Health Sciences Program Unveiled at the UMMC (click here for brochure)

The University of MS Medical Center’s School of Health Related Professions is proud to announce a new Master’s of Health Sciences program. The Master of Health Sciences program offers an advanced educational opportunity in health care leadership. It is designed to provide graduates an opportunity to assume upper level managerial and leadership roles within the health care delivery system. The program is also designed to prepare licensed, certified, and/or registered health care practitioners for faculty and leadership positions within the higher education system.

The Master of Health Sciences program was uniquely designed to help meet the needs of part-time, non-traditional students with online instruction being the primary method of content delivery. Courses will be taught during fall, spring, and summer terms, with the first classes to begin May 1.

In an effort to better meet the educational needs of students, the Master of Health Sciences program offers two tracks, the Health Care Leadership Track and the Health Informatics Track. The Health Care Leadership Track prepares graduates for health care leadership roles including health care administration. The Health Informatics Track prepares health care professionals for leadership roles in a health care system that increasingly relies on information technology. It provides students with knowledge and skills in the areas of information systems analysis, design, implementation, and management; health information exchange; social and ethical issues in health care computing; privacy and security of electronic health information; database and knowledge management; decision support systems; and other emerging areas. Students enrolled in the Health Informatics track will complete the 6 core classes followed by 6 track classes which include:

Contemporary Issues in Health Care Finance

  • Databases and Knowledge Management
  • Development of Electronic Health Information Systems
  • Decision Support Systems
  • Clinical Vocabularies and Classification Systems
  • Ethical, Legal and Social Issues in Health Informatics
