Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, has exciting new Telework or On-site openings for Hospital Coder II - Revenue Cycle. Hospital Coder II's will work remotely or from one of our onsite locations at Scottsdale/Phoenix, AZ, Jacksonville, FL, or Rochester, MN.

Coders will demonstrate expert job knowledge and apply current coding and billing regulations, policies, processes and procedures with effective decision-making and problem solving skills. Will be responsible to abstract data in compliance with national, regional and local policies, and interpret and review medical record documentation to assign accurate ICD-9 diagnosis and procedure codes and MS-DRG for hospital inpatient cases, as well as ICD-9 diagnosis and/or procedure codes for clinic and hospital outpatient services associated with the inpatient visit. The successful candidate will interact with physicians and multiple areas in the Finance Department, as well as other institutional areas as needed, and respond to questions regarding ICD-9 diagnosis and procedure codes and MS-DRG assignment. The incumbent may provide education and support to clinical areas in regard to appropriate documentation and coding of services to achieve accurate billing. Responsibilities will include clarifying physician documentation by utilizing facility-established query process and meeting established coding and abstracting quality and productivity standards. 
 Requirements:  

Associate's or Bachelor's degree in a healthcare-related program with a minimum of one of the following credentials: RHIT, RHIA or CCS with a  minimum of three years of inpatient coding experience or a Bachelor's degree in any field with a CCS and five years of inpatient coding experience. We require a good understanding of ICD-9 diagnosis and procedure coding, anatomy, physiology, medical terminology and disease processes. Prefer hospital coding experience within a large teaching and/or Level I Trauma medical facility providing complex medical and surgical services.  Experience with direct physician interaction is preferred.  PC skills, both keyboarding and applications, in addition to knowledge of and experience with the electronic medical record and billing systems, are essential.
